Ninja-kun: Adventure of the Magic Castle is an action platformer developed by UPL and released for arcades in 1984. On May 10, 1985, Jaleco ported it to the Nintendo Famicom, making it the first entry in the series on that platform. In the game, players control Ninja-kun, a ninja with a red headband, whose goal is to defeat all enemies in each level within a time limit to advance to the next stage. The game features vertically scrolling levels, including mountains and castle keeps, which loop and gradually increase in difficulty. Ninja-kun’s main weapon is shuriken; he can also stun enemies temporarily by jumping on their heads or hitting them from below, leaving them immobile. Some tough enemies, like armored soldiers, can only be defeated after being stunned. Its simple controls and varied combat made it a beloved classic back then.
