Rockin' Kats (Japanese title: N.Y. Nyankies) is a 1991 side-scrolling action game developed by Atlus for the NES. Players control Willy, a young jazz cat, on a quest to rescue his girlfriend Jill from local crime boss Mugsy. The game features five main levels, with the first four freely selectable and the final level unlocking after completion. Each level has a unique theme, including downtown, sky combat, amusement park, and western adventure. Willy’s primary weapon is the spring-loaded punch gun, used to attack enemies, grab items, and swing from hooks—mastering this tool is key to beating the game. A shop system lets players buy power-ups like bombs, double-ball gloves, hammer gloves, and jet shoes to boost combat abilities. A password feature also lets players save their progress.
