Mick & Mack as the Global Gladiators is a 1992 side-scrolling platformer developed by Virgin Games, first launched on Sega Genesis and later ported to Master System, Game Gear, Amiga and other platforms. Set against a McDonald’s-themed backdrop, the game delivers a strong environmental protection message. Players can choose to control Mick or Mack and traverse four unique worlds: Slime World, Mystical Forest, Toxi-town and Arctic World. Each world features multiple sub-levels, and players must collect a set number of Golden Arch logos to advance. The in-game weapon is a device similar to a super soaker, which fires sticky projectiles to fight enemies. The development team was led by David Perry, who later gained fame for creating titles like Cool Spot and Aladdin. Mike Dietz handled the game’s animation, Christian Laursen created the background art, and Tommy Tallarico composed the music. Global Gladiators received positive reviews upon release. Sega Pro magazine gave it a score of 93/100, praising its challenging difficulty, exquisite graphics and dynamic music. Mega Action magazine also awarded it a 93% rating, describing it as "an excellent game with incredibly fine character animation". Notably, while the game is McDonald’s-themed, its content mainly centers on environmental messaging, with relatively few McDonald’s elements. The game’s success also facilitated a partnership between Virgin Games and Disney, leading to the development of titles such as Aladdin and The Jungle Book.
