Lee Trevino's Fighting Golf is a golf simulation game developed and published by SNK in 1988. It first launched on arcades, then was ported to the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Named after legendary golfer Lee Trevino, who appears in-game as his real-life nickname "Super Mex", it lets players pick 4 unique golfers: Pretty Amy (slow swing, elite control and accuracy), Big Jumbo (powerful long hits but requires skill to control), Super Mex (all-around average stats), and Miracle Chosuke (slightly less power than Super Mex but unbeatable putting with "reverse miracle putts"). It features two 18-hole courses: the US Course (sand traps and deep rough testing precision and strategy) and the Japan Course (water hazards and narrow fairways testing control and patience). Game modes include Stroke Play (lowest score over 18 holes wins), Nassau Game (point-based competition with betting), and Practice (single-player practice on any hole). Swing controls use a 3-button system: press A to start backswing, press A again at the top of the swing, press A a third time at impact. Players use the D-pad to choose high/low shots; press A right after impact plus left/right D-pad to add backspin, and B to select clubs. Despite "Fighting" in the title, it has no combat elements and focuses on golf simulation. Its simple controls and varied course design made it one of the most popular golf sims of its era.
