Hyper Olympic Genteiban! is an NES game released by Konami in Japan on June 21, 1985. It is a port of the 1983 arcade game Track & Field (known as Hyper Olympic in Japan and also called Hyper Olympic in Western regions), themed around the Olympic Games with multiple track and field events including the 100m sprint, long jump, 110m hurdles, and javelin throw. Players rapidly alternate pressing two buttons to boost their character’s running speed, and hit the action button at the right moment to jump or throw. It supports a two-player versus mode, letting friends compete for higher scores and records.
The game drew widespread attention at the time, with special custom controllers made specifically for it to help players press buttons more efficiently. Though its graphics are simple, its data judgment is highly precise, letting players keep challenging themselves to achieve better results in short play sessions.
Its success led Konami to launch the sequel Hyper Sports in 1984, which added more events such as swimming, shooting, vault, archery, triple jump, weightlifting, and pole vault, further enriching the gameplay and meeting players’ demand for diverse sports competitions.
Overall, with its innovative gameplay and varied athletic events, Hyper Olympic Genteiban! became one of the most beloved sports games of the NES era, bringing endless fun and challenges to players.
