Dual Heroes is a 3D fighting game developed by Produce! and released for the Nintendo 64 in 1997. It was published by Hudson Soft in Japan, Electro Brain in North America, and Gaga Interactive Media in Europe.
Set in a future world where Earth has been devastated by disasters and humans have fled to space, the game follows the discovery of a new energy source called Gaiathyst, which sparks wars between nations. Soon after, the alien Zodgierra Empire invades Earth and installs the "SAP" super-gravity device, making the planet uninhabitable for humans without powered armor. Players take on the role of a brave hero to challenge the Zodgierra Empire and save humanity.
Dual Heroes featured innovative analog controls for its time, letting players use the analog stick to control characters. It includes single-player and multiplayer versus modes, with a roster of playable characters, plus a unique "Medal Match" mode where players can win medals by battling AI or other players.
However, the game did not receive widespread acclaim upon release. Many critics panned its gameplay, controls, and combat mechanics, and noted flawed AI that led to erratic enemy behavior. Still, it earned a score of 28 out of 40 from Japan's Famitsu magazine.
Overall, as a Nintendo 64 fighting game, Dual Heroes experimented with new control schemes and game modes, but failed to find commercial success due to shortcomings in gameplay and design.
