Command & Conquer is a landmark real-time strategy game developed by Westwood Studios in 1995 and published by Virgin Interactive. Set in 1995, it follows two factions—the Global Defense Initiative (GDI) and the Brotherhood of Nod—fiercely competing for Tiberium, a mysterious resource.
First released for MS-DOS, it was later ported to Windows, Mac OS, PlayStation, Sega Saturn, Nintendo 64 and more. The 1999 Nintendo 64 version features 3D graphics at 640×480 high resolution and retains the PC version’s MIDI soundtrack. Due to cartridge storage limits, cutscenes were replaced with still images and real-time 3D cinematics.
A milestone in the RTS genre, its success laid the foundation for the franchise and deeply influenced later real-time strategy games.
